Tyre smoke in the sun
My first time on a drift track and I had lots of fun!
This summer has been full of adventures, and attending a drift event has been on my wishlist for a long time. So I found one and it was a blast!
After politely asking the event organizer for a better spot, I got to sit right in the center of all the action and managed to capture some awesome pictures right as the sun was setting.
While I’m happy with how these photos turned out, I can’t say they’re my favorite. What really matters though, is how much they taught me about shooting and editing in such challenging light conditions. I believe the hardest part was balancing the shutter speed and aperture to get the right amount of motion blur while still achieving a well exposed image. Editing wasn’t much easier, the harsh setting sun and the similar tones of the track, subject and background made made things much more difficult.
At the end of the day, being able to get good results no matter the conditions is what matters most in a photographer’s skillset. While I’m constantly learning new ways to improve my work, I believe this was a great exercise and practice for me.
Finally, would I do participate in such an event again? Absolutely! Lots of cars, lots of burned tyres and lots of fun!
